Boston Spice Cake

Ingredients
  • 1 3/4 cups cake flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 5 egg yolks
  • 1 whole egg
  • 1 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 3/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  1. Preheat oven to 350° F.
  2. Sift flour, salt, and cream of tartar together in a large bowl.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream butter with baking soda and spices until light and fluffy Slowly add sugar until well incorporated.
  4. Gradually add eggs, one at a time.
  5. Next, alternate adding flour mixture and milk, then mix an additional 1-2 minutes.
  6. Pour into a buttered and lightly floured, tube-cake pan for 50 minutes.
  7. Allow to cool ~10 minutes before removing from pan.

Dust each slice with confectioners’ sugar before serving 🙂
