Boston Spice Cake
Ingredients
- 1 3/4 cups cake flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup milk
- 5 egg yolks
- 1 whole egg
- 1 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
- 3/4 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp ground cloves
- 1/2 tsp ground ginger
- 1/4 tsp salt
- Preheat oven to 350° F.
- Sift flour, salt, and cream of tartar together in a large bowl.
- In a separate bowl, cream butter with baking soda and spices until light and fluffy Slowly add sugar until well incorporated.
- Gradually add eggs, one at a time.
- Next, alternate adding flour mixture and milk, then mix an additional 1-2 minutes.
- Pour into a buttered and lightly floured, tube-cake pan for 50 minutes.
- Allow to cool ~10 minutes before removing from pan.
Dust each slice with confectioners’ sugar before serving 🙂
