Gingerbread

Ingredients
  • 1 3/4 cups All Purpose Flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 2 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 5 tbsp butter
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cups dark molasses
  • 3/4 cups cold water
  1. Preheat oven to 350° F and butter an 8×8 cake pan.
  2. Sift together the dry ingredients (excluding sugar) onto a sheet of wax paper and set aside.
  3. Mix the butter in a large mixing bowl until light and creamy. Slowly add sugar and continue mixing until well incorporated, then add the egg and continue mixing, and lastly, add the molasses and mix until it creamy again.
  4. Slowly add half the dry mixture and mix until well integrated. Mix the other half of the dry ingredients then slowly add the cold water and continue stirring until batter is consistent.
  5. Pour batter into pan and bake about 40 minutes or until skewer comes out clean. Let cool for at least an hour until removing from pan and serving.
